Muscle UpSM Campaign Encourages Drivers to Support the Muscular Dystrophy Association through In-Store Donations and Facebook Activation
HOUSTON, August 1, 2012 —Jiffy Lube International, Inc. – the company that pioneered the fast oil change industry and remains the industry leader in vehicle preventive maintenance – today announced its support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The new campaign,Muscle UpSM, invites drivers to visit participating Jiffy Lube® service centers between August 1 and September 11, 2012 to help raise $1 million in funds for MDA and those affected by muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular diseases.
More than one million Americans are affected by neuromuscular disease and for some at Jiffy Lube, the disease hits close to home. “My father was diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disease and when we reached out to MDA for support, the team swung into action to equip him with the adaptive devices needed to live the best life possible,” said Susan Grossman, Quality Assurance Lead with Jiffy Lube International. “I’ve experienced the impact these organizations have on the individuals and families they support, and am proud that Jiffy Lube has chosen to support such an important cause.”
SUPPORT THE CAUSE
TheMuscle Up campaign emphasizes the parallels between the body’s muscles and a vehicle’s engine – both require care and maintenance to perform to their fullest potential. Beginning today, Jiffy Lube customers can make a $3 donation to MDA through the Muscle Up campaign at nearly 2,000 participating Jiffy Lube service centers across the country. In return, donors will receive a Jiffy Lube Muscle Up savings book containing more than $100 dollars in savings from Jiffy Lube and other MDA supporters, including Hardee’s®, Carl’s Jr.®, Cellucor® and 24 Hour Fitness. 100 percent of the funds raised during the six-week campaign will benefit MDA and its programs on both the national and local level.
Additionally, an online donation component will help extend the reach of the campaign. For each new fan who “Likes” the recently launched Jiffy Lube brandFacebook page between August 1 and September 11, 2012, Jiffy Lube will donate $1 to MDA via theMuscle Up campaign (up to $25,000)1.1 Total funds raised via Facebook will be allocated between MDA andMuscular Dystrophy Canada (MDC), as Jiffy Lube service centers in Canada involved in the Muscle Up campaign are supporting MDC. MDA and MDC are not affiliated.

MDA is committed to funding research and providing health care services and education to help enhance the lives of those affected by neuromuscular disease. Over the past year, Jiffy Lube has been working closely with MDA to coordinate the partnership and to connect Jiffy Lube franchisees with their local MDA chapters. In September 2011, MDA Goodwill Ambassador Abbey Umali – a 13-year-old affected by neuromuscular disease – attended the annual Jiffy Lube Convention to share her experiences with Jiffy Lube franchisees and encourage them to support the cause.
